When most people hear social studies, they think of maps, dates, and historical events. When I hear social studies, I also think about engineers, designers, artists, and innovators—all the people who imagined new solutions to the challenges of their time.

What makes a student stand out in college admissions today? If you ask five different people, you might get five different answers: grades, test scores, leadership, community service, internships. But beneath the noise, there’s a quiet revolution happening. And it's changing everything.‍

At the Astronomy Society of Fulton Science Academy (ASFSA), students don’t just study science—they live it. They design and build satellites, develop CubeSat missions, and have partnered with Interstellar Technologies, a Japanese launch company, to send their first satellite into orbit in 2027. Their hands-on work extends from engineering and motorizing a custom-built Dobsonian telescope to designing and testing model rockets that reach precise altitudes and durations. Through every experiment and mission, ASFSA students integrate physics, engineering, and data analysis—transforming classrooms into laboratories of real-world discovery.

From the moment I first picked up a pencil as a child, art has always been my way of understanding the world. What started as simple drawings in my free time slowly grew into a deep love for design and creative technology—an interest that has shaped my entire academic journey and led me all the way to Stanford University.

Leadership in education is both a privilege and a responsibility. Each decision we make, from hiring to discipline to daily interactions, shapes the moral fabric of our school communities. The schools that endure are not defined by test scores or facilities alone, but by something deeper: the integrity of their leadership.
