Program Overview

This program is designed to make the most up-to-date STEM/STEAM education research and evidence-based practices both accessible and actionable. Led by experienced K–12 educators and leaders, this certificate program breaks down complex ideas into clear, practical strategies that participants can immediately apply.

Through an exploration of current models such as problem-based learning and anchored inquiry, participants will gain concrete tools and adaptable frameworks to bring authentic STEM/STEAM learning to life in their classrooms, schools, and districts.

This certification program is a thoughtfully designed, two-course series spanning the fall and spring semesters, aimed at fostering innovation and critical thinking in classrooms across all subject areas.

This program is open to educators from all teaching fields, as STEM and STEAM education principles seamlessly integrate into all disciplines, inspiring creativity, problem-solving, and collaboration.

Program Details

Duration: September 2025 – April 2026
Two Tracks:
Elementary Track: Tailored for Pre-K through 5th-grade educators.
Secondary Track: Designed for middle and high school educators (grades 6–12).
Format:
  1. Two courses spanning two semesters (one per semester).
  2. Biweekly sessions: 8 sessions per semester.
  3. Each session: 150 minutes.
  4. Mode of Delivery: Flexible options, including synchronous online, face-to-face, and hybrid formats.
Class Meeting Dates: For the 2025-2026 cohort, classes begin September 2nd. Please see the full calendar with meeting dates and times HERE. Page 1 is the elementary teacher schedule, and page 2 is the middle and high school teacher schedule.*
*Out-of-state and international participants will join in-person meetings via Zoom when time zones allow. They must also join online synchronous sessions if time zones allow. If live participation is not feasible, participants will be expected to view the session recording and complete an alternate assignment.

Meet the Instructors

Julianne Hudson

A dedicated educator with a B.S. in Biochemistry from Georgia Tech and an M.Ed. in Educational Leadership from Kennesaw State University, Julianne brings extensive experience in STEAM education, curriculum development, and instructional leadership. Having taught AP Chemistry, Anatomy & Physiology, and Middle School Science, she deeply understands how to engage students in rigorous, inquiry-based learning. Her leadership roles as Science Department Chair, Instructional Coordinator, and Academic Programs Director have equipped her with expertise in evidence-based instructional strategies, interdisciplinary curriculum design, and teacher professional learning. With a passion for innovation and a track record of improving academic programs, Julianne is well-positioned to guide educators in implementing effective and engaging STEAM instruction.

Cheri Mills

With a B.S.Ed. in Early Childhood Education from Georgia State University and an M.S.Ed. in Learning, Design, and Technology from the University of Georgia, Cheri is a passionate leader in STEAM education. Her experiences as an elementary classroom teacher (grades 1st-5th), STEAM Coordinator, Instructional Technology Specialist (PK-5), and Elementary Instructional Coordinator drive her commitment to creating engaging learning experiences that inspire creativity and innovation. She has led STEAM certification in both public and private schools and has developed nationally recognized curricula. Dedicated to empowering educators, Cheri provides hands-on support to help teachers bring real-world, interdisciplinary learning to their classrooms. Her expertise makes her an inspiring mentor for those passionate about STEAM education in the elementary school setting.

Course Details

Course 1: Foundations of STEM/STEAM Education
This course provides educators with a comprehensive understanding of STEAM education, its core principles, and best practices for classroom implementation. Participants will explore the evolution of STEAM, its significance in 21st-century learning, and effective teaching strategies such as inquiry-based learning, project-based learning (PBL), and design thinking. The course also covers lesson design, technology integration , assessment methods, and strategies for creating a STEAM culture within schools.

Course 2: Advanced Integration of STEM/STEAM
This course focuses on advanced instructional strategies, interdisciplinary applications, and leadership in STEAM education. Participants will explore cross-curricular integration, engineering and computational thinking, and ways to promote equity and inclusion in STEAM fields. The course also delves into innovation, entrepreneurship, and policy leadership, equipping educators with the skills to lead STEAM initiatives, secure funding, and drive systemic change.
